i have found that one of the hardest things to do in a home studio is to get the drums to sound nice. I've tried many different positionings and other methods. I am close to dead in the water so if anyone could make any suggestions on how to mic the drums, please share.
My current drum mic setup:
MXL 993 pencil condenser pointing down on the hi hat about a foot and a half above the hi hat
a akg c535eb under the snare with a blanket around the snare to reduce bleedage
two overhead audiotechnica dr's for the cymbals about 2 and a half feet above the cymbals (crash and ride)
one audio technica about 2 inches away from bottom head with a blanket around the tom
a shure beta 87a on the floor tom about 5 inches away from the top head on the edge
akg c1000 on the bass drum next to the kick pedal pointing where the beater hits(don't laugh, the c 1000 is temporary)
I plan in the future to purchase either two shure sm75's or two shure beta 57a's for the two toms, i heard they are nice and i know a place where i can get them cheap.
Hello, i enjoy miking drums
