hi-
couple geek questions,
first off, if i'm doing a transfer from my otari which is pin 3 hot, to a DA88 (which is normal, or at least conventional) - with standard xlrs - without any rewiring - the signal will be a flipped polarity right? but, since every track will be of the same flipped polarity - there will not be any phase incoherence, right? in effect, every place where the speaker pushes off my tape machine, will now pull on the DA88 - and the net result is the same, correct?
also - where in town can i get some TL074s? i realized i ordered the wrong version from mouser and don't want to wait any longer.
thanks,
nick

Nick,
You're mostly correct, in that all the tracks will all just have their polarity flipped in the same way. But the fact that when listened to on the Otari some things push, while on the DA-88 those same things now pull is the problem.
When you hit the phase switch on a channel, doesn't the sound of that track change? Yes, it does. A pushing bass drum sound different than a pulling bass drum, for instance. So go ahead and don't rewire the cables when you make the transfer. But start your mix with all the phase buttons pushed in.
If you were to record and mix off of the same machine (the otari) with the XLRs (in and out) wired pin-2-hot, there wouldn't be a problem because they flip on the way in - and then flip back on the way out.

TL074s - As a last ditch, Radio Shack sometimes has them. They're next to most Dunkin Donuts. There aren't many places to buy components in the chicago land.
