Last night I had wonderful chance to see what was probably the most bizarre band ever. It was a trio comprised of kids ages 13-15 who worship at the altar of Nirvana. Needless to say these kids ended up sounding very familiar to my ears. They were ripping off what reminded me Bleach era Nirvana which in fact was a rip off of mid 80s Touch & Go releases. What's really funny about this that I'm listening to these kids play and all I could think of was old Butthole Surfers and Big Black. I have no doubt in my mind that these kids have no idea what these bands sounded like. The best part of the set was when halfway through the bassist and drummer leave so that the guitar player could do some fingerstyle acoustic playing before they resumed their sonic assault. My only complaint about these guys was that their name was Nocturnal Deep. They really need to change their name to something that fits their sound a bit better. I was going to suggest that they change their name to Nut Puncher until I decided that was too good of a name and I need to use that myself. Anyone else know if there any gems in their local neighborhood comprised of kids?

NOT CRAP WF:2
1. That name
2. I have a bad feeling they're going to turn into something very bad down the road

The Blisters are ages 5-10 years old and feature Spencer Miller Tweedy (son of Sue Miller and Jeff Tweedy) on the drums.

I'm going to say NOT CRAP based on the fact that I think it's a good idea for kids to be playing music even if they blow at first. I work with middle school and high school kids in after school programs, and god damn are some of these kids the most spoiled apathetic lard asses who just play online RPGs the whole afternoon and evening until their parents get out of work and bring them home, where they probabaly get mcdonalds take out and resume playing online RPGs until bedtime.

so anything that can get kids doing anything creative, even if it sucks, is a-ok by me.

Does anyone know what happened to the Old Skull kids? They have to be in their mid to late 20s by now, right?

the Beatles of kid bands

Speaking of the Beatles, there was a kid band named The Bantams in the sixties (I think on Warner Brothers). They did lots of Beatle tunes backed by studio musicians and were pretty bad, but I can't bring myself to get rid of the lp.
I think one of the Old Skull kids was the offspring of a Tar Baby, but I'm not sure.
