Abba, i didn't even dignify that by voting. It's like people aren't even trying.
The question of abba being crap or not crap is not a murky one. They are by definition crap. What's next, -the Beastie Boys?

I distinctly remember an interview on MTV Europe a number of years ago with a thin bespectacled gentleman who listed Abba as a band he thought was definitely Not Crap. Since that person is on this board, I know I'm not alone, and the poll stands as non-murky.

But I agree - one more play of Dancing Queen and I'll do some damage to my radio. However, I couldn't vote Crap just because annoying DJs around the globe want to aurally assault us with just one of their songs.

If you are a fan of pop music, which ecompasses Shins and Big Star as well as Britney and Abba, it seems to me that the main criteria to judge quality are: how tight and well-constructed is the song? And, are the melodies strong? Do they do something to/for you? And, how good is the performance? How well is it all pulled off?

To me, Abba rank high on everything listed above. Not crap.

In the realm of pure pop music, Abba are unassailable. They are to euro-pop what Slint and Don Cab are to math rock.
