Has anyone done the gate mod to alesis 3630? It is supposed to make it sound like a dbx.

This mod wouldn't involve selling the alesis to some idiot on Ebay by using the words 'industry standard' several times in the advert, then putting the proceeds towards getting a dbx166, by any chance?

Huh? Nope. It is just a mod in tape-op that has you open it and snip the gate jumper wires. Cause the 3630 has the same chip as some of the dbx units, but the gate in the 3630 messes with the sound.

I heard you can replace the op-amps in these compressors with Burr-Brown or Analogue Devices ones. Also, the VCA can be replaced too. Having said that though, I wonder if it is really worth it. It's good fun tinkering though.

The Black Lion Audio mod is definately worth it. I did the mod 2 on my 3630, and I use it on a regular basis now.
