anybody catch this news story yet? audio recordings of bush, pre 2000 election, admitting without question that he smoked weed, and also another line he mentions "LSD, cocaine" alongside weed as questions he doesn't want to answer because he doesn't want some kid thinking it's okay to do what he did 30 years ago.
what an asshole!

i think he's an asshole, but not based on that stuff. i read a couple articles about it, and honestly, if you don't take it out of context, it's almost complimentary.

I agree (with shagboy). I liked him more after I read the story.

How that dullard has managed to avoid national vilification for his previous indiscretions in beyond me. Maybe it's because you're guaranteed a second act in your pursuit of this 'American Dream' ideal if you clean up and find Cheesus. Your past shouldn't preclude you from achieving certain things when you choose to go straight, but I cannot help but feel a nasty pang of fear when I think about conversions of the sort that this man has been through. Alcohol and drug (ab?)user > religious epiphany > Messianic mission to rid the world of 'Evil', it's all well documented so I won't rant any more about that.
I think all that acid and coke he took fiddled with his constitution. I don't even think he's religious. I think in the same way that I refuse to accept I collect pornography he probably stashes the works of Sartre and Dawkins under the floorboards.
There's nothing I'd like more than to wake up to the news of Dubbya being found dead sporting nothing but a gimp mask and a copy of Origin Of Species next to his flacid, bruised cock.
Maybe that's going too far, actually.
Fuck it, it's not.

Ehe, whatever. I don't think there's anything of interest in the actual content of this kind of thing. The born-again redemption story is enough for the social conservatives, and the captains of industry could give a sweet fuck what drugs the president has done (as long as he never pulls their stiff fingers out of his ass).
The double-standard with regard to who's in office is interesting though. I'm no fan of Bill Maher and his weak, lowbrow gay prostitue jokes, but
this Jeff Gannon shit is something else.

To be honest I've been amazed that it's taken so long for a 'scandal' of the Gannon variety to surface. The administration's policy of favouring smaller, more impressionable regional press when it comes to presidential exposure is indicative of their canny ability to make the press and the media work for them. It's no surprise that the press itself should have been 'infiltrated' in this way. The fact that he was so nakedly obsequious is the most amusing thing.

I think that the Gannon story is the bigger news of the two recent stories and have found the tapes to be no big deal. My gripe is that I'm pretty sure that the more conservative branch of the Republician party would have had a field day with this stuff if a Democrat had been president. It seems that most Democratic candidates are more candid in public about drug use so I guess that revelation is no big deal, but I can almost hear Fox News saying, "What else is He trying to hide?!?" I don't hear anybody on Fox News asking that question about Bush. This, also, is not a shocking revelation.
