So, I love a lot of Kranky stuff, but have had trouble getting into Low. Though alll I have heard is Secret Name...I like the music, but honestly, hate Alan's voice. It really bugs me. Anyone have any recommendations on Low albums that are more instrumental or where the singing is a bit more "subdued?"
There are crispy fries waiting to come out of your oven: you just have to make them and put them there.

this record is really good. unfortunately there is this horrible lull within the first 6 songs, which i had a hard time getting through when i first got this record. then one day i somehow ignored the first half and rediscovered the last half which is really terrific. dinosaur act is an awesome song, and helps me get throught he first half, as does the opening track.

I think the most recent record (Great Destroyer) is by far their best.

I love it.

Having said that, their use of the same intervals for their vocals harmonies can get really, really grating.

I recommend all of Low's albums except for the Great Destroyer. I've ranked them from my favorite to least favorite.

Secret Name
The Curtain Hits the Cast
Long Division
Songs for a Dead Pilot
Things We Lost in the Fire
Trust
I Could Live in Hope
The Great Destroyer

There are also some live recordings of them, one from a church and one from Japan. I haven't heard them, but they may give you an idea of what albums you'd like to hear.

Glad to be of assistance,

hmm, i think the new album is good. but i can see why people wont/dont like it. but for low its possibly their most important record...i reckon...

anyway, where would they have gone from 'trust'? i dont want to hear things we lost in the fire part 2.

also. i [badly] interviwed the band when they played in wolverhampton last month...the transcript and bits are here http://www.nothingatall.net/
