Man, I saw him live in 88 in Missoula, and used to own some of his records. When I hear his songs on the radio, I turn the station. I just don't get it now. I got to say, I almost like George Thoroughgood better

You never will truly get it until you go to Austin and check out that big statue of him by the river.

I think they put it there because that was right where he used to score smack.

CRAP.

First thing I said when someone told me Stevie Ray had bit it while touring with Eric Clapton was, "Do you think Clapton was on that copter, too?"

I once asked David Berman, before my first trip to Austin, if anyone would fight me if I walked down Sixth Street wearing a "Fuck Stevie Ray" t-shirt. "I don't know" he said, "but I bet you won't make many friends."

Why would anyone buy this guy's records so long as the Hendrix catalogue is still in print. The Johnny Winter catalogue.

I'm not the kind of guy to piss on anybody's grave, but my dick's out...

CRAP!

Without SRV, Aaron Icarus (now in the Nine Inch Nailers Band) could not have incited a riot at SXSW a few years ago by smashing his guitar's display case. This is probably his sole contribution to my life however.

nothing redeemable about SRV...one of the worst things ever...i really couldn't give a shit about Jimi Hendrix, but even i think comparing the two is a grave insult to Jimi...

i'm not going to vote "guitar legend" on this one, cause that's plain silly.

but...

once i was flipping through the radio and i heard a blues guitar solo and i actually liked it, and i generally don't like electric blues. it sounded sharp and articulate and like the guy really knew what he was doing. and it turned out to be stevie ray vaughan.

i can't hate the guy if the blind taste test tells me it's good.

just like how i was like "i dig this melvins song 'going blind'" and then i found out it's by kiss, who i want to hate.

blind tests are informative.

I have to give credit, he was balls out/stupid enough to wake up every morning to a mug of Jack Daniels with cocaine poured in it.

"Pride and Joy" is a horribly "manly", half-addled love song. It shows SRV as being both possessive of and dependent on his girl / woman.

He deserved a kick in the balls from its object for setting such sentiments to a shit-shuffle of a beastly blues rocker.

I could make a pun on "chops" and "chopper" but I'm not feeling that cheap.
