Okay, so I tried not to set my expectations too high on this, and it actually wasn't that bad. The jell-o thing was a little bit out of left field, and Dawn's character is a bit too mousy, but there were some pretty funny moments.

Without the BBC version to compare to, this would be some great television. As it is, I'm still going to go with N/C.

Oh, I wish I could watch this without constantly comparing it to the original. I don't know if I can vote, but I can guess, and my guess is Not Crap. I laughed; I didn't cringe. I think the casting was pretty good, especially for the boss. I almost wish they had kept the Rod Stewart song... I don't know.

I'm filled with mixed feelings.

I liked his four role models: Bob Hope, Abraham Lincoln, Bono, and ... probably God as the fourth.

Only saw the last 10 mins of it, but man that was horrible. I wasn't really expecting anything more, but still. It just doesn't translate well to an American show. I was not amuuuuuused.

Part of the original's appeal was in the alien world of British pop culture, as well as the lingo, mannerisms, etc.

I was under the impression that this was going to be the same sort of setup as The Office, with similar characters, but different situations. Nope!

I think it's pretty good...

But the only thing I really watch on the TV is Animal Planet and reruns of Unsolved Mysteries, so I'm probably not the best judge.

I watched the first five minutes, found myself almost caparing each scene against the BBC show, and decided there was NO WAY I could watch the show objectively.

I say CRAP, just because the NBC show with defile the purity of the original.

It's similar to people doing whole covers of previous albums to me. Some songs can be better than the originals, but the first albums are still more potent.

My wife and I did the same thing - right after the NBC show, we put in the 1st episode, 1st season of the BBC version to see what they changed. The people behind the NBC version say they took a lot from the BBC version for the 1st episode, but subsequent episodes will be more "original".

We'll see what that actually means tomorrow.

is this it for C/NC on The Office (america)?

i have to say i have only seen some of season 2, and none of season 3 (which only has one episode aired) but i have seen all season one at least 3 times and i think this show is great. NOT CRAP.

And yes, I have seen the entire british series, with is also NOT CRAP, especially the final special DVD-only christmas episode.

better than the original, which isn't saying much. the lead actor is a lot more believable.

i haven't really seen it though i thought the britcom version was CRAP.

that's so strange... i actually find the whole brit version to be more believable. But the american version, while a little ridiculous/over-the top at times, has a more vibrant comedic magic to it.

what the hell am i talking about?
