Search for youtube videos of Korean samul-nori.Lots and lots and lots of electronic music obviously. Check out my buddies in Lumisokea (search on Bandcamp) for instance, who are inspired by the Korean percussion music genre mentioned above.

Looking for music that is based more around rhythms than melody, with percussion as a lead instrument. Obviously much of the music favoured on here is strongly based around the rhythm section “ I guess I mean the more extreme end of that. Jaki Liebezeit and Burnt Friedman's 'Secret Rhythms' series would be an example. Cheers! And feel free to kerble, didn't know exactly how to search.

NewDarkAge wrote:Looking for music that is based more around rhythms than melody, with percussion as a lead instrument.I have been in this exact mood for maybe two or three years now. These are the best I've found:Goat (from Japan)https://goatjp.bandcamp.com/album/new-gameshttps://goatjp.bandcamp.com/album/rhythm-sound-both of these releases are phenomenal. Drums, bass and prepared sax, but the bass and sax are mostly muted and played like percussion instruments. Super duper complicated rhythmic stuff that I never get tired of hearing. Practically all I've been listening to the past few months.Niagarahttps://preschmedia.bandcamp.com/album/ ... -1970-2016-two side-long songs of what sounds like a never-ending '70s car chase. Some sort of supergroup project band, I believe. Perfect album cover as a bonus. Incredible.Blake Fleminghttps://blakefleming.bandcamp.com/album/times-up-drummer of the Dazzling Killmen doing multi-tracked solo experiments. Some nice field recording odds and ends scattered throughout as well.Tiguehttps://tigue.bandcamp.com/-trio from New York, who I hope hurry up and record another album that includes this unreleased piece of badass. Not strictly percussion, as there's some minimalist keyboard stuff happening too, but the focus is definitely on rhythm.Drew Gowranhttps://drewgowran.bandcamp.com/album/vi-tal-i-ty-local St. Louis guy with this solo recording. No overdubs that I can tell. Really solid, interesting drummer who just continues to get better and better.

Look up some Japanese taiko. Maybe FM Kaleb can jump in and make recommendations, as he's the one who made me aware of it. Good, powerful stuff.

Despite having a pianist and double bass player, the band DAWN OF MIDI sounds very much like rhythm/percussion based music to me. The way this album sounds is insane, so "empty" but with so many details at the same time. It's hypnotic.https://dawnofmidi.bandcamp.com/
