tm,

I've been meaning to ask you about that. So, that's good to hear.

Paul Caporino is one of those nonchalant geniuses that makes me feel inadequate. Name a song, any song (I really mean any song), and he can play it just about. This isn't itself remarkable, as any journeyman can figure out the block chords for a song, given a minute, but the remarkable thing is that he does it the way you remember it: with the cool part sticking out, the signature riff, the odd rhythmic accents, the ridiculous lyric -- whatever.

If he wasn't also a great songwriter it would be a savant-type thing that creeps you out.

Anyway, Beck is also a great drummer (in the idiom) and a perfect vocal foil to paul. I say not crap, to the tune of "Tennessee Birdwalk," or some other novelty gem.

I feel it is my duty...

In case anyone out there is interested in learning more about the decidedly "Not Crap" M.O.T.O., they have a new website and their seminal _Single File_ compilation has finally been put back in print. You can read more here:

And some mp3's are posted here:

While on tour, we were staying with this one guy who had to play us "the most amazing band EVER!" it was MOTO.

He played the first song. Above average pop-punk. Next song. Above average pop-punk. Next song. Above average pop-punk. We thought it was decent, but hardly "the most amazing band EVER!" We shrugged, and he put on "Funhouse" by the Stooges.

The jury's still out on MOTO, but "Oh my god, I have to play you the most amazing band ever!" = CRAP!

Saw 'em the last night of the Lounge Ax (moment of silence...) w/ Coctails and Dianogah (?). Didn't leave an impression overall, but I do remember and will remember "We are the rats" for all of time.

Saw 'em the last night of the Lounge Ax....

Oh man. I read that as "saw 'em last night at the Lounge Ax" and my heart skipped a beat like a little girl, and then confusion set in at why I hadn't heard that the Lounge Ax had re-opened.... And then I read it, slowly, and yes. I see. Ha. Ha.

Carry On.

Wow. I had never heard this band until about five minutes ago. I'm now sitting here at the girlfriend's house, freeloading off someone's wi-fi, listening to these M.O.T.O MP3's through my tinny iBook speakers, and I'm smiling harder than I have in a long, long time.

"I just had sex and I'm walking down the street and the chicks can tell..."

Amazing.

Who are these guys? Where are they from? How long have they been around? What should I buy?
