Steve and phase correlation ?

I've noticed that people get very distracted by what a phase response meter shows even after the are happy with the sound. We use a Meyer compass galaxy at work and everyone freqs (sigh) out because if you make a change to the eq or a filter it displays the phase corelation and people can't look, or listen beyond it. I shared the highs on some front fills once and the department head ram back to his office and started running computer renders for the system to see how it was screwing with his plots.

Indeed, if i use a lowpass filter, the phase is staying positive up to 300hz. Above it starts moving below zero.Thank you Steve. The drums sound amazing and this video is priceless.

HiIn this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmP9z-xTRz0 @ 2:37 the phase correlation of the two room mics is negative (i've imported the video in logic pro and used an analyzer). Is it because the room mics are delayed (20-22ms iirc) and the 2 ms delay does this to the phase ? If i add 2 ms to the left channel the correlation is more centered around zero but still goes below it. Or maybe it's because both mics are aimed at the same thing, the kick drum ? What's Steve's philosophy regarding phase correlation ?Thanks

The phase relationship of any two mics at a distance will be (for practical purposes) random, and so equally likely to be positively or negatively correlated at different frequencies. It doesn't surprise me that the full spectrum sound would be negatively-correlated. As noted, I set the delay times by ear. The 2mS would only have an effect on frequencies where precisely 2mS delay happened to be harmonic.
