Traveling internationally while working remotely
1Hey there, I could use some advice. For the foreseeable future, I will be working remotely. I've decided to use this opportunity to visit some places and get out of my comfort zone. Note: I've never left the US, outside of some visits to Quebec. Another note: my job requires a good internet connection and accessibility by phone. This is non-negotiable, and is sort of what frightens me about taking this trip.So I'd love some advice from people who've done this or who do it often. I'm already in the process of unlocking my phone so that I can swap SIMs and I'm considering forwarding my workline to a Google Voice number to perhaps lessen the rates. Otherwise, I'm wondering what things I can do to ensure WIFI to the greatest possible degree in the event that my AirBnB is bunk. Obviously, there are internet cafes and co-working spaces in some countries. Are there any good websites for navigating this sort of thing? Also, are those MiFi things ever worth it or is it basically the same as tethering to your phone? My basic itinerary is this: a week or two in Miami to visit some friends (no issues here), two weeks in the Dominican Republic (probably closer to major cities), about a month in Colombia (split between Medellin and Cartagena), then upwards to Belize, and finally a month in Mexico (split between Guadalajara and Mexico City). Then back to New York. Unless, you know, I really enjoy a certain place and it's working out, etc. I've tried to keep it safe with regard to places that are known to have decent internet (with the exception of DR, which I haven't researched as much yet). Let me know if that itinerary seems dumb in terms of order or if I'm missing out on anything in that area that fits the accessibility criteria (sucks, but it's the tradeoff). I'm pretty open, to be honest. The amount of time spent in a place isn't set in stone, but is just a general guide. Thanks!
