Which Oktava Mic is Steve referring to in this Show Us Your Junk video at approximately 9:08 ? He said he is using it 50% of the time on snare these days.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwkF3-JmSeAThanks, Tim

Man I had a pair of the chinese ones when i was in high school and they were so mismatched and noisy. It was before people realized that there were in fact chinese ones around. I tried so many different things before just getting rid of them. They left a bad taste in my mouth, despite hearing amazing results with them. Most notably, my colleague who does a lot of classical stuff uses them as spot mics with fantastic results.Maybe I should just buy a pair and leave them around the studio and see if they make their way into use.

The ones we have at EA are Joly modded and have the special 1" front-address capsules in addition to the hypercard, card, and omni caps. Joly just shut down his operation, I believe.

Older models are also called MC-012. There are Chinese fakes of this mic out there. Watch a couple of the you tube videos to learn how to spot the real ones from the fake ones if you're hunting them down. These are great mics that sound good on a lot of stuff. They were available with just a cardioid capsule, or they also came with 3 capsules: omni, cardioid, hyper cardioid. All versions shipped with a pad as well.

My old room mate had a fake one and it sounded exactly like my real one. the only real difference was you could rub the markings off with your thumb easily. the font was a little different too.
