I used to give my friend so much shit for listening to these and not reading books, then I got a smart phone and a desk job and a long commute. So, Audible recommendations?I ll only mention a few to start that have fantastic narration:Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers. Read wonderfully by Robert Forster, who does a great job of giving it a very noir feel. It s sci-fi but don t let that turn you off. The Largesse Of The Sea Maiden by Denis Johnson. It starts off slow, but I can t tell you how many time I ve gone back and listened to Michael Shannon s excellent reading of Starlight On Idaho. Have never done that with an audiobook before. Crushing!The Hard Stuff by Wayne Kramer. Brother Wayne narrates!I couldn t stand the audiobook of Lincoln In The Bardo. I can handle shit like that on a page but In was obnoxious in this format.

Bump - looking for Audible recommendations. Just finished Steinbeck s A Russian Journal which wasn t bad.

Stephen Kings the Stand is pretty good and it's long as hell so you get your moneys worth.

I'd like to see some more action in this thread. Really enjoyed the Robert Petkoff narrated David Foster Wallace stuff I've heard. I started reading Pale King but will probably pick up where I left off with the Petkoff narration.

War is a Racket by Smedley Butler is a timeless classic. It's short, I think I finished it over a few commutes. Should be pretty easy to find on the popular audiobook torrent sites.

Audible has been keeping me sane at work. Recent favorites: œSo Anyways... by John Cleese(Love this man- and I love hearing him laugh at his own 50+ year old jokes. What an incredible life.) œBeastie Boys Book by Mike D, Ad Rock(Great guests reading: Snoop, Bette Midler, John C Reilly, etc) œRole Models by John Waters(Of course: entertaining. But also moving at times. Always interesting.) œHark: A Novel by Sam Lipsyte(I am a Sam fan but I really do feel like the audiobook of this is a better experience than the book.Apple. Boy. Apple. Boy.

Listening to Alan Moore s Jerusalem right now is my own personal Everest. It s 60 hours long, but it s also really fucking good, so if you want to stretch some miles out of your monthly audible credit, you can t go wrong here.

I am planning to send my best friend a copy for his birthday, but giving someone a 1000 page book seems a bit like handing someone a puppy they didn t ask for, but maybe I can leave a note and mark a certain chapter that I think can be enjoyed out of context.Have about 9 hours left to go. I admit I did skip the chapter about James Joyce s daughter Lucretia that was written in verse, but I am considering buying a paper copy for myself to pickup and read selections from when I feel like it.
