It is Jake's way of saying, "Man, 10:00 is too late. At least meet me halfway between my preferred time of 9:00 and your proposed time of 10:00 by agreeing to 9:30."

I don't think Jake is expecting that you will be there between 9 and 9:30. You already said 10. He is asking that you "at least" aim for 9:30 instead. He is not indicating the period from 9 to 9:30 or the period from 9:30 to 10. He is suggesting perhaps 9:25 to 9:35.To put it another way, "at least 9:30" doesn't mean to set one end of your time window to 9:30. It means you should "at least" consider setting the middle of your time window to 9:30.What you should do is you should aim to get there at 9:30.

Everybody has their own window of expectation. With some people it's less than five minutes either side. With others, and I'm not saying that all of them are drummers, stated times are only a rough guide.

Hey seanurban, I'd been meaning to ask: did you ever ask Jake what he meant by "At least 9:30"? I'm dying to know if I was right. Well, not dying, but you get the idea.
