I used to live in New York but moved away recently, so I won't be of much help besides advice. If you're on a tight budget and enjoy doing a lot of walking there's plenty you can do for free:- Central Park and Prospect Park are both huge and well worth exploring.- Coney Island is somewhat interesting, plus you can chill at the beach.- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (especially at night). It's packed with tourists but still worth doing once.- If you do a lot of reading visit Strand bookstore. It's huge, and you can find a lot of books in like-new condition for cheap.- Not that you'd have any reason to go to Staten Island, but you can ride the ferry for free, and you get a good view of the Statue of Liberty.- If you just want to walk around a bunch of neighborhoods there's plenty to see in lower-ish Manhattan (Chinatown, Little Italy, West Village, East Village, SoHo, etc).

I've got inlaws in town this weekend and so can't offer a place/have you stuff records.NYC is a great city that can deal with tight budgets if you are okay walking around. Good things to check out for cheap that haven't yet been mentioned:- Cathedral of St. John of the Divine on the Upper West Side is the largest cathedral in the world (I think) (Anyway, it's really big)- NY Public Library building on 42nd St- Ganesh Temple in Flushing welcomes visitors, is quite beautiful and the cafeteria in the basement is open to the public and has some of the best cheap South Indian food you'll ever eat- Saturday is Welling Court's annual open street day. It's the best street art event you'll likely see in NY this year. Blocks and blocks of amazing stuff by folks from all over the world. The following items are usually cheap and pretty good and vegetarian:- Pizza- Falafel- BagelsSpend money one night at Una Pizza Napoletana. It's so good. You can quickly check out Oh My Rockness for good shows. Here's what I see at a glance:- Dysrhythmia/Stinking Lizavetta on Thursday- Cavity AD at St Vitus on SaturdayAnd a bunch of other stuff. If Sunday is nice, just walk through Central Park.= Justin

Does anyone here live in NYC? I'm arriving there Thursday morning and leaving Monday afternoon, and I just found out the friend I was staying with Thursday and Friday night in NYC is bailing to Foxwoods tomorrow night sooooo I'm technically homeless while I'm there but I'm still going cuz mama ain't raise no bitch.I have plans with an old friend to see a concert Saturday night, but besides that not much else is planned so I'm just winging it. If you live there and can offer a place to stay (even a floor), please do I'll pay some money. If you live there and CAN'T offer a place to stay, still hit me up regardless I'm looking for a drinking buddy but if you don't drink I'm also looking for someone to show me around or just do shit with in the mornings with (this has inadvertently turned into my first solo vacation ever). Or if you can't/don't wanna meet up just give me some advice tbf I'm gonna be backpacking on a tight-ass budget.
