The longer I live in this absurd world controlled by the worst people, the more relevant I feel Diogenes is, although I personally feel his direct followers Crates and Hipparchia refined his philosophy best by embracing mutual support and equality, while still keeping the ridicule of rulership and arbitrary societal norms razor-sharp (unlike the later Cynics who watered a ton of the subversive elements down). Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to know which anecdotes about him are true and which were fabrications made to attack his character (some of which make him even more appealing), but there has been so much written on him that survives and seems to paint a pretty consistent character at least.

I've certainly found some inspiration at times. I like your summation.
