Probably a bunch of metal stuff from the '90s but I don't have specific examples. I'll probably never own a piccolo again (maybe a 4 or 4.5 tho) but they can sound interesting tuned low.

I always felt like the snare on the first Promise Ring sounded piccolo-ish, but listened back today and might just suck. It's weird how much I dislike it and also couldn't imagine that album (which I have great fondness for) without it.

That being a reference the whole "Frankiewelfareboyage5" record by braid has a thwocking piccolo on it too.
Probably not a piccolo but I always think of "My Own Summer (Shove It) by Deftones for a piccolo too.

I wonder how much the piccolo stigma has to do with the snare itself vs the tuning..
A 7" deep Keplinger snare tuned table-top tight on both sides will probably sound worse than a piccolo tuned by someone with some sense.
But I get why they often go hand in hand..

I always thought I hated the pic sound until I heard Greg Saunier play one with Deerhoof and make it sound absolutely amazing.

Quick, Fast, in a Hurry is up there with my favorite Amphetamine Reptile releases. Pete Beeman is a great player. Super fluid with a clean attack.

Agreed! such a snappy style. He was a trip to watch. He definitely influenced a lot of the players in my town in the mid-90s. Growing up at a midpoint between Minneapolis and Chicago, we were blessed with so many sick drummers coming through town during that great time period for AmRep & T&G.
