I've seen Yi-Yi, and That day on the beach, which I loved, and Taipei story and Mahjong which I liked a bit less.
Opinions on Edward yang's movies, please?
I vote NOT CRAP of course.

He's great.
I've not seen everything he's done but I love Yi Yi and A Bright Summer Day. Classic stuff.

ABSD and Yi Yi are both amazing. Really need to give both a rewatch sometime soon.
I have VCDs of A Confucian Confusion and Mahjong, remember liking the former slightly more than the latter. Mahjong wasn't helped by the UK/Euro actors, but I might be less bothered now. Really hope those two get restored at some point.
NC, huge loss that we didn't get anything more from him after Yi Yi.

A package of the two restorations has been announced for Criterion.

YI YI is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Even if everything else he ever made was a hybrid of THE ROOM and the non- Samuel L. Jackson parts of JUNGLE FEVER,
Not Crap.
I have yet to crack the cellophane on A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY but I intend to soon.
