I asked this question in the old forum but I didn't solve the problem immediatly, and now I need to and I can't find the thread anymore. I'm trying to send an Ampeg DI to a recorder but the sound is all distorted. If I remember correctly someone explained it was some output level issue. How do I fix this?

Sounds like you might need an attenuator. They're quite cheap.

What are the make/model of the recorder? Which Ampeg DI?

Ampeg Scrambler and Zoom R16.
If there is a solution without buying anything it would be better because the DI is not even mine and I don't plan to use it anymore in the future.

The ones you linked are for hooking to the output of a power amplifier. They won't work for this.

You need a balanced line-level attenuator, also called a pad. It's hard to say which value without actually measuring levels with a meter. Maybe start with something like -15 or -20 dB.

There are a bunch of other alternatives. Or DIY something in the end of an XLR cable. You can do it with as few as 3 resistors.

Huh, I use an R16 and have recorded direct on it all the time with no issues with blowing out the volume. Are you using this pedal?

Ah, gotcha. Do you get different results using the line out vs. the XLR out into the Zoom?

Sorta surprised it doesn't have any sort of master volume, so that's likely the problem that those pad things recommended above could help solve.
