Generic Gear Opinion Request Thread

How about a Gear Opinion Request Thread? Some kind of GORT, if you will...
Could this really be a thing? A single repository for all those "Does-anyone-out-there-own-an-X-and-if-so-can-you-please-tell-me-about-it" posts? You may say I'm a dreamer etc., but what with the fresh new forum and all, I really think we owe it to ourselves.
I'll get the ball rolling, and if this thread ends up sinking miserably, then it's all on me.
Here goes...
Danelectro Longhorn Bass (reissue)?

Danelectro Longhorn Bass (reissue)?
My boss got one a few years back, played nice and felt like decent quality. Can't remember if it was Korean or Chineseium. I'd personally look for an older used one from Korea, those are probably good to go.
A couple of years later I found this mongrel for sale - somebody stuck a long scale neck on one of those square guitar bodies - that thing kicked ass. Sounded great with some Chromes on it. Purged it later.

Thanks
Yeah, the early- to mid-00s Pro versions have really caught my eye. They were Korean made and had the metal-saddled bridge instead of the rosewood one. Saying that, the demos I've seen of the current gen Chinese ones sound surprisingly good, too.

I think Dano basses of all types for all their faults are some of the most fun bass guitars to play. I had a 63 Silvertone Extremely short scale bass that was a blast and I regret selling it, even if it was functionally almost useless. It was a good time. Nothing does the palm muted Lee Hazelwood/ Spaghetti Western thing with a little Spring reverb. Love them.
Also... NONAGON

Kinda casually looking for a budget Telecaster Deluxe. Sort of eyeing used versions: the Squier Classic Vibe or the Fender Chris Shiflett?
Anyone got any opinions on either? I am guessing if I go Squier I may need to change out pickups and wiring?

My favorite Telecaster of recent years is the Fender Baja Telecaster, which became the Fender Vintera 50s Modified telecaster.
My advice is to search the usual suspects for a used Baja; CL, reverb, GC used, music go round, Sam Ash used, etc.
I've seen people having good experiences with basic mods on the Classic Vibe stuff as well. Most people do swap the pickups.

I had a Baja Tele about 15 years ago and it ruled, I had no idea they did a Deluxe, taking a look on reverb now and Vintera ones are catching my eye.

The old Squier VM Tele Custom came in a dual humbucker version (the II had P90s), and they make a pretty solid modding platform for (I'm assuming) not a lot of money.
The finish on them is super, super thick so stripping/refinishing works wonders...I gutted a II with P90s, and it felt about a pound lighter after stripping it and doing a simple refinish using woodstain, danish oil and wax. Their necks are pretty good (satin, nice profile), but the nut and tuners ain't all that. Depends how much you want to put into it, I guess!

Hey does anyone have any experience with or perspective regarding the Audio Kitchen Big Trees amp or Flying Squirrel pre-amp?

I don't have a complete Classic Vibe guitar, but I've been using the necks for builds for the past few years and they are some of the best feeling necks I've ever played. I've got 2 of the 50s Tele necks and a Tele Deluxe neck (all maple) and they are very nicely made. I haven't even had any fret or nut issues with them. The "vintage style" tuners they use are also great and I have never felt the need to upgrade them. As far as electronics, I'd say try everything for a while before you replace. You never know, it might be good enough.
