Great bands you initially ignored because you hated their name

Shame on you for being so judgemental!
Bitch Magnet- I totally assumed they were some nu-metal type band and passed them up until just recently. Stupid me
Bongripper- I pretty much pre-judge any weed themed band, and so much stoner rock is so predictable to me. One of my interns was cranking Terminal in the warehouse one day, and I was loving it. Slow, groovy, heavy. I love listening to this when I am tinkering on a project, or driving long distances. As I dig into the catalog, some of their stuff can be a bit samey, but I enjoy the grooves.

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich
I fucking hated typing that out just now. Good 60's British psychedelic pop, though.

I had mistakenly assumed that Kurt Vile was a nom de guerre

Same thing for me with The Sound. I thought no way a band with such a boring name would be worth a damn.

There was a 90s Swedish 'industrial metal' band called Misery Loves Co., and I remember first seeing that name and thinking it just awful. Turns out they were super good guys and put out three good albums (the second being my favourite).
They also regrouped and put out a fourth effort a couple of years back, which retrod old ground to no great interest but yeah - awful name.
Around the same time I can think of three other bands with godawful names, who were all godawful - Dearly Beheaded, Pist. On, and Pro-Pain. Pro-Pain get let off for being good lads when Johnny Morrow was sick on their Iron Monkey tour.

Christ, I remember them. Sort of proto-nü-metal. I didn't know about the Iron Monkey connection.

When Johnny was very sick out in Europe on that tour, and Earache stiffed them for money to get him back home, Pro-Pain ponied up out of their own pockets for him. Good guys.

Can't think of any obvious ones, but I wouldn't have bothered with Booker T & MG's just going by the name.

A friend of mine ignored Nomeansno because he thought they were a straight-edge hardcore band. He was angry that he missed out on years of enjoyment.

For years I figured Union Carbide Productions was just another offering of "The Alley"/ sub-Wax Trax industrial horseshit. Ohhh, was I wrong...
