I fixed the switch on a friends the other day and had actually never played through one in all my years. Maybe it's just the way I play guitar but I super hated it. It was a box filled with every terrible Crate Stack guitar tone I've ever heard. Maybe it was more broken than just the switch, but it just reminded me of every terrible meth-metal band one might hear bleeding though the walls of a shared practice space. Not for me.

NC. Slightly prefer the DOD American Metal, the 3-knob one that's like an HM-2 without the Low knob.

a) use it with battery or with a proper power adapter (not the standard boss 9v PSA).

b) plug a bass guitar.

It is great.

Same here. I think it sounds best with all knobs at noon.

Had one and sold it for a tidy profit. I kinda want the reissue, but at that price I may as well get a handmade clone. Anyone got suggestions for which one to get?

I'm loath to recommend behringer, but the HM300 is their version of it, and it's cheap. It's not identical, but it's fairly close. You can probably find a shoot out video on youtube.
