I discovered them a few months ago and have been listening to them nonstop--mostly the El Pueblo Unido, Jamás Será Vencido (1973-1983) collection. They were forced to go into exile in France after Pinochet's coup. I think they're still around, though I have no idea if any of the original members are still playing. I've since gone down the Nueva canción rabbit hole--so much good shit. Talk about a heavy genre--
Nueva canción musicians often faced censorship, exile, torture, death, or forceful disappearances by the wave of right-wing military dictatorships that swept across Iberian America and the Iberian peninsula in the Cold War era, e.g. in Francoist Spain, Pinochet's Chile, Salazar's Portugal and Videla and Galtieri's Argentina.

Some great stuff I haven't listened to in a few years. Thanks for the reminder.
