I feel like when I'm not ripping off Burma it's because I'm ripping off Unwound.

When I try to change the tempo or feel of the riff, I wind up ripping off Sleep.

I'm not a very good writer.

I was hoping this would be a thread about using the bottle breaking preset from a vintage 80s sampler.

"Shattered glass" moment with a band I had been playing guitar and singing in for over a year.

Drummer: "don't take this the wrong way but I really don't like your singing voice"

I think he was just trying to get me to yell and scream more, which was the opposite of what I wanted. Another year or so with that inevitably doomed band we split to go onto things more in line with what we wanted. We don't live in the same city anymore but are on friendly terms.

But yeah.. probably the worst way to express that to your bandmate!

More of a "confusions of a beginner musician" moment, but I punched a chord and it had an interesting sound, esp as an arpeggio. A C Eb F. So it's like an Adim6? Or (moving the tonic to C) a Cm6sus4? But it doesn't really sound like a sus chord. Wait a second (moves the tonic to F), yeah it's just an F7.

I suppose there technically might be different things you can call them, and that's all part of the confusion.

The band I was in about ten years ago had a song written by our drummer that had a cool (I thought) harmony guitar intro riff (I'm a sucker for those). When it came time to decide our CD's running order, our drummer, other guitarist and I lobbied to have the song close to the beginning while our singer/main songwriter (who wasn't as enamored of the track as we were) insisted on burying it near the end, which is where it eventually went.

A short time later, a friend of the band pointed out that the harmony guitar riff was lifted almost note for note from a Blink-182 song. We immediately scratched it off the setlist.

I meant Blink-182, not Maroon 5. Got my numbers mixed up.

Oh, I know what you mean.

I remember when I first was learning how to play guitar, I was messing around and played a partial/open E-shaped chord on the fifth fret. Thought it sounded so damn cool. It's basically just an A9. Yeah, that chord has been used a LOT.

Hey I came upon an exact example of this one the other day. This is the one that made me think of the Diablo Tristram theme. It's very recognizable.
