BAND: The New Year

The first time I heard Bedhead, we were driving down the West Coast. My friends loved it. I could not give a fuck.

Somehow I got a copy of _Transaction de Novo_. I listened to it once or twice. I had no interest. But I liked the way it looked and the way the paper felt in my hand, so I kept it.

Every few months, I used to throw a bunch of my records out the window--the ones I liked for forty seconds and then realized were crap. When the window was open, I'd pull the ones that I never listened to, and I'd play them to make sure I didn't want them anymore. _Transaction de Novo_ made it through at least six rounds until I didn't even consider it anymore.

I don't know why it took so long. I suppose it's because I have a combination of ADD and dyslexia, and I happen to be a facist. I have no patience. I have no attention. I couldn't wait for those fuckers to play the next note. I couldn't listen to those spaces.

But I understand now because I tried to play it.

It's genius. Delicate and deliberate. And difficult.

The New Year is good. I know it's a different band, but it feels like those guys got tired of holding their breath. They're just letting the fat roll over their belts now. Which is okay since they're not really fat.

Very very not crap. "Alter Ego" is one of those crowning moments in music - a ball-blistering brain-swellingly fantastic song.

And as for Bedhead and "Transaction de Novo" - if I was a teenager in school still and lusting after a fair damsel, I'd be putting "More Than Ever" at the start of her free mix tape.

Thanks Biznono...I was way off on the lyrcs

Will the New Year come back to Tucson? I know, I know, there's not a lot compelling one to do so, but...I missed you guys the first time last spring and was heartbroken. Club Congress? Chicago music? Good mexican food?
