Job Summary

The Music Department is looking for an experienced Recording Studio technician to provide specialist expertise, support and guidance for students and staff using the full range of equipment and facilities in the new Frankland Recording studio, and related systems. The postholder will support delivery of teaching and other related activities across a range of users, whilst maintaining a high level of user support.

Main Duties

The postholder will have a high level of expertise in the equipment as well as an understanding of how to supervise and facilitate others in using it, optimising positive user experience. The post holder will have a demonstrable understanding of recording techniques as applied classical and jazz music contexts. The post will require some flexibility in working hours and it may be necessary to operate out of normal working hours, agreed in discussion with the post’s line manager.

The post will be line managed by the Studio Technician with a dotted line to Head of Department and will work closely with various academic and professional services staff across Music Department and University Music team.

Person Specification

Relevant workplace experience, equivalent professional qualification or degree in an appropriate subject.
GCSE level 2 (A*- C) or equivalent level 2 qualification in mathematics and English.
Experience and understanding of professional audio systems, compositional workflows and recording systems.
Experience of both conducting recording sessions and supervising others in doing the same.
