Sovtek Mig amps?

So i've been told by many people that these sound a lot like JCM800's. i'm think about trying to track one down. Any opinions on them? What do they sound like? Can you direct me to any songs that you have recorded that they were used in?? Are they of decent quality (i'm assuming since you own an arsenal of them they must be). Thx, any help would be great!!

I think Sovteks are swell. I dont think they really sound like a JCM800, but then again Im not terribly familiar with that amp.

I own/have owned a MIG 50, MIG100 and MIG100B (bass). I have played a MIG-60 and a MIG-50H.

The 50 is an astounding clean amplifier. No master output gain, but if you turn the input gain to 10 the cruch is thick yet detailed, but also alarmingly loud (good for live, not so good in the studio). I find it to be a rather bright amplifier. Other than clean and crunchy it doesn't have a wide palette of sounds.

The 50H is a high gain version of the 50. You can't quite get the same clean sound, but the overdrive is pretty cool. I thought of it to be pretty "fuzzy" rather than cruchy.

The 100 is thick. The guitar and bass heads are pretty much the same design. I think that the center freqs on the EQs is different and there are different caps on the input jacks. This amp is super solid and sounds great clean or crunchy. There is an input and output gain and a lo and hi input. The 100H is a high gain version.

The MIG-60 I have only played a few times. This amp is harder to come by than the others. This is the one that gets compared to a Marshall most often. All I know is that it had a great overdrive. I prefered this amp to the MIG50 and MIG 50H. Cant say much more about it though.

I hope that my loose descriptions of these amps kind-of, sort-of, maybe helped you in some way?

clicks me link. the MIG-50H was used for everything except the clean parts (fender bandmaster). i use a pedal to get the 'super-overdrive' but the medium overdrive is pretty representative of that amp. they sound much less 'farty' to me than a JCM800, but then again, 'farty' may be what you want/need/like.

As far as examples, the lead guitar in my link is on a Sovtek MIG-60 (though he was playing on a really really shitty guitar). Matt Sweeney from Chavez uses a MIG-50 I believe. The only downside to the 60's is that the amp is in a perpetual state of balls-out-rocked, meaning it's hard to get a good clean tone from it.

I owned a 60. It sounded excellent. Unfortunately the wiring was suspect, and every week a new cold solder joint would start picking up vibrations from the cabinet.

If you purchase one, make sure to get it thoroughly checked out by a reputable tech.

Click on my signature, go to the "media" section, and download "Give The Lepers Their Due," there's a 60 in action.
Police Teeth: we like Void so much, we decided not to sound like them.

Mig 60 is the only one I would own. Out of all of them I think there the most realiable. They only have one sweet spot.

www.myspace.com/formofrocket all the guitar on this album is recorded with MIG 60's

That's not entirely true, sorry Crane.
Firstly, the songs on their myspace site are not all from the same record.
I think Peter played a MusicMan head on Lumber.
And Peter played that Marshall on "Keep smilin Ed Smart"
You are correct in that we did use a Mig 60, I think that's what Curtis played on most of the recordings.
Incidently, Peter is now playing a Mig 60 and Gentry plays an Earth head.

Gentry is playing a sound city head now for F.O.R. He uses the Earths and kustom cabs for smashy smashy.
