Rich people getting mad about anything, especially in front of cameras: Crap.
Making a joke about someone's health condition: Crap.
Responding unequivocally to said joke in defense of one's life partner: Not Crap.
Rock said Smith "slapped the shit out of" him, but that was a pretty gentle slap. It didn't even seem to connect with skin. People are making much more of this than it's worth ("He should be arrested for assault!" and other pearl clutching), probably because these are celebrities. If this happened between two working class brothers on the street, nobody would say shit. Also, if Rock was white and called Smith the N-word, nobody would call it unjustified violence, even though that's also "just a word" and "there are better ways to deal with this." Sometimes men gonna man. Sure it's not great role modeling, but we are taking it way too seriously.
Talk shit get hit

Congratulations, 2017 Best Picture mix-up: you're no longer the most awkward moment in recent Oscars history.
That said, this isn't the end of the world.
Definitely weird for TV/well-heeled celebrities/an awards show, but nothing that should destroy anyone's career or shake the foundations of...you get the idea.

Good night for the visibility of the deaf community and alopecia. Bad night for stereotypes of tennis parents and Netflix hopes to be the first streaming service to win best picture.
So next year will be hosted by Ricky Gervais, with the front two rows occupied by showbiz relatives with anger issues.

I didn't get it. What was up with the GI Jane joke?

Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia, so has shaved her head. Like Demi Moore did in GI Jane. Chris Rock gets paid for this.
(She, of course, looks amazing. I would look like a nazi)
The full video is even more awkward since Will Smith seems to be laughing at this pretty weak joke.

Bad joke, bad reaction. Everybody loses!
A chunk of ice the size of Los Angeles broke off Antarctica a few days ago but I can't wait to see how many articles come out about this.
p.s. my crankiness isn't directed at anyone here, but social media contest to see who can have the most progressive take on this. blech.
