I like him.

He's fine. Very influential, kind of a nutball. It's a testament to how evocative Gymnopedie 1 is that I don't necessarily want to immediately turn it off now, even after hearing it in a million movies/tv shows/etc.

"Gymnopedie No. 1" isn't quite as ubiquitous as "The Entertainer" or "Arabesque No. 1," I think, but it's up there. These are still brilliant compositions. At least to these ears. Not Crap in a gray suit.

Brilliant, economical, maybe the forefather of sad, dark, atmospheric rock music.

The Gymnopedie and Gnosis pieces are unique because I can actually hazard some of them on the piano and they make me sound like a proper pianist. I can't think of much else that produces that much sound requiring only a little technique

For my first wedding, held in the backyard of her parents' house, we began the service with two individual strikes of a bell, followed by Gymnopedie #1 on a harp. After our vows and whatnot, we ended the ceremony with one strike of a bell.

It made me feel some kind of way to type that out just now. Nothing about that marriage lived up to the ceremony, and we ended things without technically consummating it. We're happy with other people now, though.

Gymnopedie No. 3 is one of my favorite pieces of music. At once beautiful, innocent, sexy, and creepy. I have fantasies of undressing a woman, or watching her undress, while this plays. Maybe that makes me a creep. Whatever.
