^ Not from Tampa Bay but I do spend a few weeks of the year on the Gulf beaches.

It's not looking good at all.

Lived in Sarasota for a few years in the 90s and return often. I still have good friends there. They're hunkered down, anticipating the worst. One of them owns a seafood distributing business that we're very concerned about, and will be spending the next couple of nights in a friend's liquor store because they're anticipating looting once the real shit starts.

Ungood.

My partner has an all-hands sales conference scheduled in Ft. Lauderdale from October 3 to the 6th. Not sure how that's going to pan out, but I guess that's what you get when you schedule something like that in Florida in the middle of hurricane season.

Best of luck to all Floridian death metal veterans.

I'll be bracing myself... for all the hack-y The Hard Times memes that come out of Hurricane Ian.

(seriously, if you're in the area please stay safe)

We're situated not far from the Gulf, south of Tampa; current storm track predicts Ian will be barreling right on through here:

Am not that rattled, though, because I lived through Irma and know what to expect. This one will be more intense, if it stays on course, because there's less intervening land to impede it, but the house should be able to handle it. Setting aside any major catastrophes, like the roof getting ripped off or someone dying, I'm mostly hoping the power doesn't go out for too long, and that no one here in the house gets too hysterical or annoying.

But thanks for y'all's well wishes, we should be okay, so worry not. I don't, however, have the power to stave off the expected jokes. "Hurricane Ian is unleashing bottled violence on the Gulf Coast--this is no minor threat, ladies and gentleman." And so on.

Edited for spelling.

We will, thanks!

Personally I'm just trying to treat this as yet another nuisance from the past few years.

We've got potty pads for the dog, so that he can go in the garage when it gets choppy out there. And there's enough food and water. And movies. Could be worse.
