Hey, I've had 805s forever, they'll probably be buried with me.

I've def heard (read) lots of people praising those Adcoms and saying they work well with the 805s, you might be just fine with what you have.

I used to use a Rotel RB1080, worked great, had no complaints. I swapped that out for a pair of Hypex Class D monoblocks and sweet jesus what a difference. The Hypex are incredible, blazing fast, super detailed, just amazing. The Rotel is living out its retirement powering the living room stereo, where it is overqualified for the job.

I got some recently and some of the Matrix HTM's (center channel version of 805 with shielded LF driver...and cheaper than 805's. sound the same to me) I've been running them with Adcom's too. I have a pair of GFA 6002's, each in bridged mono. I like them, but I do drool over Bryston amps, and have looked at Hafler and Parasound. My adcoms were free though, so....

What EQ are you using for your 805's? Is it the B&W bass alignment filter or something else?

My understanding is they don't make them anymore, though the link above has something (and I'm curious to know more), The correct part number for the original is zz8532. I've managed to get a few on ebay and one on audiomart, but they come up rarely and run $200 or more. Hard to find them in decent shape as they usually get broken off and caved in.

Fun Fact, the Matrix HTM center channel uses the same driver so scour your local listings for those. They are usually easier to score than 805's. If the tweeter housing's tab is still intact, just pull up(gently) while rocking side to side and it will come free without breaking.

I managed to find a sus pair for 500. Pulling the working tweeter from that pair and combining. Found one company that rebuilds them for 500 a pair, find some random eBay tweeters for 50 that they claim fit. Might try to resurrect the broken ugly pair i have with those. The woofers are good but I’m parting them out on eBay rn to make my money back

That Adcom will work just fine.

I went from Hafler to Adcom many years ago, and I preferred the Adcom by a lot. Just sounded better.

I used that larger Adcom to power 801s and it was good. Swapped it out for a Parasound A21 which costed a lot more and was maybe 15-20% better.

One silly hi-fi nerd thing I tried on the Adcom...that actually seemed to work...was replacing some internal wire fuses with ceramic fuses. Andy Cohen and I were laughing about how dumb it was as we were trying it...but we a/b'ed it blind and we could both tell the difference.

Solid. I just picked up an HTM and an 805H (the sideways one) this weekend for a combined total of $330, both fully intact. I think all in I've paid an average of $200 per speaker and I'm up to 2 pairs of HTMs, one pair each of 805s and 805H's. Cosmetic condition varies, and I'm still short 1 tweeter and 2 tweeter housings, and 2 of the 6 tweeter housings I have are missing the tab. Slowly been piecing them together over the past year. At some point I'll get a decent setup going so I can compare them all and see if I can even notice any difference (so far none, but not been very scientifical about it). They really are nice speakers.
