So since early Jan I have been working with a large education group who have been running a computer science summer school at my university with my school (what American's call a department). It was awesome. As part of my thank you hamper from them, I got a cookie. I also got a bunch of cookies to give out to those colleagues of mine who could not make the closing ceremony in person. All of the cookies were labeled as "gingerbread", which was a bummer, because gingerbread tastes like shit. But one of them was much lighter, blonde in colour, so I picked that one for myself in the wild hope that is was shortbread.

It was shortbread! Hurrah!

I had the cookie today with some tea. it was fantastic. Not at all ming like minging gingerbread.

But then I got thinking about this this evening. Reflecting upon my shortbready victory...I wondered.... Are there people out there who prefer gingerbread to shortbread? Are there people out there who like gingerbread at all? They be monsters, to be sure. But they may well walk amongst us.

What say you?

Shortbread beats gingerbread with ease, but a good ginger biscuit beats both.

Ginger is a good taste. The issue with gingerbread is the load of molasses. A little molasses goes a long way. I might have a bite or two of gingerbread around the holidays, but it’s not a patch on shortbread.

Short bread by a mile, all of that butter and sugar can't be for nothing.

I'd put shortbread on the losing end of the battle with most classics: chocolate chip, peanut butter, most girl scout cookies, and a properly made gingerbread cookie.

I don't like gingerbread cookies. Easy vote for me.

Have to think this one over. Shortbread beats crunchy gingerbread cookies seven days a week, but those big, chewy gingerbread cookies can be awfully good.

I’m voting shortbread, with some regrets.

Once a year, my sister makes a huge batch of gingerbread cookies for the winter holidays. Love them.

I have nothing against shortbread cookies but voting gingerbread for nostalgia's sake.
