Having been somewhat intrigued by this fellow (but having not heard his music) I asked my flatmate (who has heard his music) what he thought of him, and I was told, quite curtly, that "(I was) not bringing that (album) into the house". Is he correct and I would be better off buying the new Nick Cave B-Sides album (as it "probably sounds exactly the same"), or should I be making haste to my local record store?

Or should I fuck both of them off and spend the money on 4 pints of Kronenbourg?

I haven't heard Antony's record, but I saw him as Lou Reed's backing vocalist in 2003, and the guy has a truly amazing voice. He sang "Candy Says" and had everyone swooning. On the basis of that, I'd say take a chance on the album.

EDIT: Since I posted this, I got the disc, and I like it a lot. Weird drag-queen's blues, but heartfelt and powerful. I'm sure lot of folks here will hate it, but I was really moved by the thing.

The first album was played at the reckid store of which i am employed in
indentured servitude. My first thought was revulsion, then it burrowed into my brain. Incubated for a week or so. lo and behold, fucking beautiful.
I couldn't annoy my co-workers and roomates enough with how great i thought this record was. "Hitler in my Heart" is a masterpeice. Fills my
whole over the top Scott Walker-isms to a tee.
He also does a great cover of "Mysteries of Love" that twin peaks song.
not crap. heavy waffle factor for the schmaltz.
