Epic original thread with a former keyboard player for Fugazi losing his mind and forays into Moby Dick (the novel, not the drum solo.)

I have a few thoughts, but overall crap.

Would have been NC if he stayed with the Stravinsky-for-a-jazz-fusion-band thing. The doo woo and puerile “fun” are an obvious crap. Big guitar heroics also, imo.

I can only tolerate in small doses, but gets a NC for two main reasons:

- “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow”
- Testifying against the PMRC

John Denver and Dee Snider also get significant points for the latter.

Crap, with maybe a fraction of a waffle for some songs on Freak Out. Emphasizing constantly that you’re “above” the music you make = crap.

The anti-PMRC stuff was not crap, but his lifelong misogyny negates it.

He's on my list of musical genius that is entirely unenjoyable to listen to. Crap, but respect.

He's got a bunch of instrumental stuff that I find boring, but Freak Out, Absolutely Free, Joe's Garage, Weasels Ripped My Flesh and the You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore albums are all enough for a N/C vote from me. His autobiography is pretty interesting as well.

I could be wrong, but I always assumed he was saying stuff like that on record because he thought 'love songs' were bullshit, and/or he was just trying to get a rise out of people.

Would take Franks Reynolds or Costanza over Zappa.
