We had a "free" thread on the old forum, but I don't see a similar thread on the new board yet. If I missed it, Kerble away.

-------------------

EDIT: These have been claimed!

OK -- Hey you beautiful nerds. Anybody want these? For free? I've gotten what I need from them and they are ready for a new home. PM me.

(If the images fail, it's two amp books: Aspen Pittman's 'Tube Amp Book', and Gerald Weber's 'Desktop Reference of Hip Vintage Guitar Amps'.)

Late 50's Magnavox console. A vintage console group I belong to says it's a 1956 Berkshire model 270BA but I'd have to go check the model # for specifics. Regardless, if anyone's in the market for a rehab project this is yours for the price of free as long as you can pick it up in Chicago. DM for location and all that stuff. It's dusty, it's heavy, it's vintage, and it's all yours. Thanks for reading!

EDIT: obviously first come first serve, but I'll soon list it for pick-up in my vintage console group.

I have a couple of unused inkjet print cartridges for our old Canon printer: a black (CLI 251 BK) and a yellow (CLI 251 Y), still in the shrink wrap. If anybody could use some free ink, I’ll ship them to you free.

For that matter, if anyone wants the printer itself (a Pixma MG5520), I’ll ship it to you gratis. It simply stopped powering on one day, and has been sitting in our garage ever since, waiting for our next trip to the electronics recycling facility. Maybe it’s a simple fix? Maybe you could use the spare parts? It’s yours if you want it, for the low, low price of free.

FREE TO A GOOD HOME: "Karen," my 1981 Tercel DLX. So named because she's over 40, makes a lot of noise, and is a cantankerous brat.

Long story short: after 10 years of being my primary car and being subjected to Minnesota's eternally crap weather, I bought a Yaris to use on my hour+ work commute. The idea was to park the Tercel and gradually repair the accumulated list of little things that needed work and then only use the car for short trips around town in good weather. Well, that plan fell apart when my brother's car rusted out and he needed to borrow the Tercel until he had enough money to buy a used car. He then kinda trashed it and ultimately blew up the engine when he decided that oil was optional. It still runs, and I fire it up and move it on my driveway about once a month or so to keep the battery charged, but it has a pronounced rod knock, and I am not confident that it won't throw a rod with any real driving.

I also have a 1982 sedan that rusted out (again, I can't stress enough how much I hate the weather in this god-forsaken place), which I have been using as a source of spare parts. It's all yours if you want it. It's even got the engine you'd need!

The good:

-Relatively low mileage
-Fun car to drive
-Body in mostly-decent shape considering that it was my primary car in Minnesota for 10 years
-New-ish rear control arms (Achilles' heel of this type)
-Comes with a whole parts car (1982 sedan) if you want it, as well as a stock of parts pulled from that car for future use.
-New tires
-Comes with factory service manual
-The engine currently in it is a swirl-port 4AC.

The not-so-good:

-Engine has been damaged, possibly catastrophically. Replacement would be wise (3AC in parts car).
-Crack in front windshield. It appears to be stable. It just randomly cracked while the car was sitting outside one day, so I think it was due to the ambient temperature shifting.
-The car is showing its age in terms of road grime and surface rust. This was my primary all-season car for 10 years, not a show car.
-Rear bumper stay has rusted and the whole assembly needs to be replaced. I have a replacement, but never got around to mounting it.
-Fuel gauge does not work. I was going to replace the fuel sender with the one from the parts car but never got around to it.
-Cabin fan does not work. I replaced the relay, switch, motor, and resistor, so that doesn't really leave much else but wiring...
-The car has an exhaust leak; the catalytic converter has a hole in it. Also, I'm pretty sure the cat blew out long ago. Either way it should be replaced.
-My brother kicked out one of the side speaker panels and lost the little fasteners to put it back on. There should be spares in the parts car.
-At some point, my mom decided that backing her SUV into my car would be fun. This damaged several light fixtures, but there are replacements in the box of parts that come with the car.

The weird:

-I gave up on finding a functional TVSV, so I reconfigured the vacuum system to use the BVSV as a substitute. The choke and fast idle work as they should, but they disengage at a slightly lower coolant temperature than optimal.
-Because the BVSV is being used as a TVSV substitute, the switches for the smog pump to activate are inactive. Since its primary purpose was to warm up the catalytic converter with exhaust air, and the service manual indicates that it doesn't do anything with a warm engine, I don't think this is a big deal. I removed the drive belt to the smog pump since it isn't actually doing anything at this point. This makes the engine somewhat quieter than stock...

I can't think of anything else. I don't have the time or energy to fix the car up at this point, and I'll probably be moving in the next few months. I think the old girl has some life left in her with some proper TLC, and the last thing I want to do is sell it for scrap. Please take care of her.

Pictures available on request, PM me, yo. Located in Hastings, MN.

Hey andy, just PM-ed you (I think!). I'll definitely have this if it's still available.
