I'm thinking of when Rod Stewart calls out "guitar" right before the guitar solo in Stay WIth Me.

Or the word "chorus" right before the chorus in Wire's "Map Ref. 41°N 93°W"

Is this endearing, or annoying?

Please post other examples.

Endearing, depending on usage. I heard a Prince song on the radio, and he dropped this enthusiastic "1! 2! 3! 4!" Instead of rocking the fuck out, his dinky Linndrum and wack synth came in.

Endearing.

VH's "could this be magic", right before the solo:

DLR: "Edward..."
*Eddie plays a lick*
DLR: "thank you"

And then of course there is Funky Drummer.

"Rub it on me! Rub it on me, Duane!"

At least that's what I think Yow says right before the slide solo in Nub.

Leonard Cohen has that great moment when he sings the chord changes as he plays them.

Pretty much always love it.
