When I press record, I get error message. Looks like this.
I have set up mic correctly (1,2). Mic device is not disabled.
What's the matter?
Re: Audacity help w/ mic
3The one that comes built into the laptop (pic). I've used it on skype so I know it works.

4No idea,
But - have you restarted your computer? Also, is the internal mic selected for the input? As in Audacity is not looking for an interface or anything is it?

7So, if this was me?
Here is exactly where I would go from where you currently seem to be.
The Reaper DAW software has a fully functional demo that is pretty light as far as taking up room on the computer you are using. Here is a link -
https://www.reaper.fm/
(The "Download..." link should be on your upper left...)
I would install it, and see if I could duplicate the issue you have described inside of Reaper. If it will carry over from Audacity to Reaper, at least trying it out on Reaper should narrow down exactly where your issue might be.

8Any difference if you change from MME to either of these other settings? Back before I went to Mac, I often found myself messing around with settings like this.kokorodoko wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 11:45 amYes. Problem persists.

9Well, no change. But here we're getting somewhere:twelvepoint wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 12:39 pm Any difference if you change from MME to either of these other settings? Back before I went to Mac, I often found myself messing around with settings like this.
So now I can start recording at least, but no sound enters.
Possibly some problem with the mic itself. It's on, all the settings are ok, but it doesn't seem to be capturing anything.

10You might need to might need to enable the input for the microphone you are using. Start at about three minutes into this video, and see if it works out for you.
If not, we can start attempting to work out if there is something else wrong.
