Pet Peeves Redux

I’ll start.

Fucking records with no indication what the side is so you have to hold it up to the light to read the etch.

A double fuck you if it’s a double album with all the record stickers the same.

People with whom you make an appointment, finalize business with, and set about conducting that business...who then feel free to just drop by without calling ahead, expect you to drop whatever you are working on to address their issue, and get angry when you're not willing or able to do that.

Seriously, we signed a contract. Doesn't mean I'm indentured to you.

Streaming platforms that assault you with loud auto-play trailers when you're just looking for something to watch. It's fuckin bullshit. Big-ups to MAX for keeping it real.

Band pages on Bandcamp that don't start the listening experience on the first song. Like, I have to expend all that energy clicking stuff just to get back to the first song. Start your releases on the first song! It's fuckin bullshit.

Slow-walkers and people who are lost just standing in the flow of foot traffic looking around like it's the first time they've seen outside. Move! It's fuckin bullshit.

I see this as people trying to operate somewhat in the way things used to be pre-mp3.

An album release would have an accompanying single, often chosen by the record company (based on what they predict would be the most commercial) and to a large extent this would be a promotional tool to help boost album sales. Obviously that whole system has kinda collapsed with the advent of digital sales and streaming. So I think some people are doing this as a way of getting you to listen to what they think is the strongest track, meaning you might stick around and listen to more or even purchase. I could be wrong and agree that it can be irritating.

Assholes not paying attention when the left turn signal goes green.

People who roll into my workplace without doing a lick of research (nature preserve, reservations required), and waste my time arguing about it.

Singers who rhyme “myself” with “someone else”. Makes me want to tear my hair out.

Gas stations that advertise their gas as $ .20 cheaper than the actual pump price.

Military flyovers during Longhorns games. I live near the stadium. It rattles the windows. Tax dollars at work.

Sound guys who tell me to turn the bass down.

I’m adding the infuriating London (maybe this is the UK) habit of not walking on a consistent side of the pavement. I’m sure staring into your phone walking is universal but in London people just randomly walk, often in a slow zigzag.

Most places you walk on the same side you drive.
