Guns are a big one. I’ve read that it’s a myth that suicides are nearly always planned out and inevitable, that the whole “if he didn’t have a gun, he’d just find another way” argument is a myth. Many suicides are impulsive.

But that’s surely not the only cause, because ODs are up too.

Men are more resistant to therapy? Also less prone to regular doctor visits and possibly not addressing hormonal imbalances?

When my idiot father and stepmother purchased their first firearm a few years ago, I mentioned that a firearm kept in a home is much, much more likely going to be used in killing another family member or friend (argument, accidental) or in a suicide than some boogeyman breaking in at 3 AM to steal the 80 inch tv. They just guffawed in return. I think there was a study in the late 90s that was onto this, and the NRA made sure that these kinds of studies wouldn't happen in the future.
