Earlier this week, the cashier at the pet supply shop asked me, “Has anyone told you how much you look like David Tennant?” I chuckled as said that, believe it or not,
someone has.

After I left the store, I looked up David Tennant on my phone. That’s when it dawned on me that the person who told me this before was probably that same cashier.

I don’t look all that much like David Tennant.

Twenty-five-ish years ago, a few teenagers told me I looked just like Hugh Grant.

I look even less like Hugh Grant, at any stages of our lives, than I do David Tennant. And I don’t look like David Tennant.

An ex-girlfriend from decades back thought I looked like the singer for Matchbox 20. I don’t look like him, either, nor does he look anything like David Tennant or Hugh Grant.

What about you? Who have you been compared to?

Yeah, this has happened.

I don’t think I look like any of them.

When I was younger, people often said I looked like Gabe Kaplan or Bernie Kosar. In my 30’s and 40’s, people often said I looked like Norm McDonald, but that was usually when I was drunk. I have an old friend who insists I look like Harrison Ford when the lighting is right. My girlfriend thinks I look like a cross between Clive Owen and Liam Neeson, but she sees me through rose-tinted glasses.

When I was a kid my friend's mom insisted I looked like Macaulay Culkin. When I had longer hair my friend's girlfriend said I looked like Evan Dando. Mr. Dando and I have aged differently, which is lucky for me.

Like many of these tales the Dando connection was quite a reach but flattering.

Two of those guys look alike.

I have a letter in German here somewhere in the basement that I got from some young woman I didn't know (but who seemed to exist and have profiles online) back around 2010 when I still lived in Dortmund telling me that she had seen me around and I looked like Colonel Andrew Brynner as played by Peter Firth in the movie The Chill Factor and would I like to meet up and even if I just looked a little bit like Colonel Andrew Brynner as played by Peter Firth in the movie The Chill Factor that would do it for her.

I posted about it in the love line thread here at the time. I did not reply to the letter. It could have been some eleborate prank but my gut feeling was that it was genuine.

A year or 2 ago, I was helping out at a speech and debate tournament. Some high schoolers said I looked like Jimmy Fallon.

I can't see it.

A couple of people have said Michael Andretti. I don't really see it, but ithe mentions were a few years apart, so...
