10 years gone. Such an incredible body of work. I’d imagine for most people here the Berlin Period is the go to, but honestly I’ve found gold in every era, even Tin Machine (which I love other than the drummer singing tracks) and the 90s work which I listen to regularly.

A lot of musicians have been very forthcoming in saying Bowie was a great guy to work with. Evidently he even went back and compensated 70s band members who had worse terms at the time.

A few person flaws over the years during his drug fuelled hedonism.

All this said I can see why someone wouldn’t enjoy Bowie. There is an element of “surface over depth” that comes with the ever evolving sound, trend chasing rather than setting etc.

I really can't say anything that hasn't already been said about Bowie.

As much as I do like some of his "eras" (ugh, Taylor Swift has corrupted that idea), I think his gems are his transitional albums... thinking Station to Station, for example. That album touches many, many different genres of music in only six songs. Probably my favorite of his.

I suppose I should listen to Blackstar one of these days, though I think I'm more into Bowie's songs rather than his albums. I remember on a road trip I was listening to Changes (the hits comp) just about every day.

I've seen chatter recently of "Bowie toured with Nine Inch Nails back in the 90's? That really happened?" Yep, I was in high school, and I naively didn't go, in part because I had just started going to shows and an out of town show (4 hour roundtrip) was kind of a big hassle for me then. At least I got to see him in 2002.

NC. My 5th and 6th grade kids are even into his music. Big props for making Mick Ronson more popular than he otherwise might have been

Station to Station is an all time. every aspect of it. Like all mercurial artists, there's parts of the catalog that don't work for me. But StS alone seals him as a top 20 Rock musician

A great singular voice, some epic tunes. I'm not sure if I can be arsed to do a survey of his late period garbage, but I listened to Earthling in the car, and that record sucks really hard. Reeves Gabrels wanking off over tuneless KMFDM amen break loop nonsense. I thought it would be at least funny. It's not funny. Counterpoint, that soundtrack that Trent cobbled together for Lost Highway is fucking epic and sounds excellent kicking off with Bowie's spooky voice over the blacktop at night. Anyway, none of that negates that Bowie is still great and Reznor is still a jag-off.

Love pretty much everything from The Man Who Sold The World (that one is underrated) to Scary Monsters. Don't mind hearing "I'm Afraid of Americans" and I never did listen to the last record, and I should really rectify that.

His last album is astonishing, easily top five of his career, some days the best record he made. Seriously. Rich, complex, abrasive, cerebral, kinetic. And really, poignantly beautiful too.

My kids are big Bowie fans too - we had the ziggy and hunky dory albums on repeat in the car for a solid year there - excellent records - and yes Mick Ronson - what a dude!

The sections on Bowie in “please kill me” are interesting in terms of his rapid evolution and magpie-ish tendencies… but clear love and interest in the US musical culture at the time…

I am prepared for this to sound insane, but I really don’t think he gets enough credit for his incredible vocal technique. So fucking good.
