Please could someone tell me how to do this..... is it possible to use an audio recording of a bass drum to create a midi representation of the same information ? I'm sure this can be done...but how ?

2the midi info won't have the instrument data, but i'd imagine you could use the amplitude of the waves as a midi velocity trigger of some form..
i have no idea how to do this though. sorry for the lack of help

3Yes, I think you can. I remember a friend of mine using a Plugin which allowed him to trigger a bass drum sample via midi using the original audio track. Try scanning the web for such a plugin. If you could reverse time, you could have placed a piezo / midi sensor on the drum and recorded the midi data with the audio in tandem. Good Luck.

4I work with Logic Audio and it has an option to convert audio to midi. It doesn't convert well the tones, but it converts well the beats.

This is probably what you're looking for. Haven't used it yet, but I hear raves and raves about it. My roommate had it applied to his bass drum tracks on a recent recording and he can't stop talking about how good the engineer made him sound...
