best 80 s arcade video game (best video game of all time)

Anyone who is sensible knows that by the time the late 80's early 90's came around all video games sucked so none of these post-classic games will be included in the poll for best video game of all time. Mortal Combat? Doom? Halo? Who fucking cares. I've included a list of what are the best video games of all time and you'll notice no "chick" games are included like Pac-man, Centipede, Donkey Kong, Dig-Dug etc. even though I do enjoy me some Centipede sometimes. Hell Frogger is awesome but it is still a chick game. I'm not including the old originals like Space Invaders and Asteroids because in the end we all know they were ultimately pretty boring even though they were exciting and revolutionary at the time. Oh by the way, Tempest is the best video game of all time.

double dragon was pretty good but not great: once you learned a certain combo it was very easy to beat and thus boring. Gyruss was fun and I enjoyed the tocatta and fugue soundtrack but in the end it was a Tempest rip-off. Phoenix was pretty good, but the whole bird/egg thing was a little too "chicky" Also the action wasn't fast paced enough. All good games though, but not a contender for the greatest. I will amend the list if something slipped my mind but I think its a damned good one so far.

defender is a good choice. Karate Champ was great but like double dragon a certain combo made it very easy but at least it predated Double Dragon which in the end is a Karate Champ rip-off. You had to do the "crouch low and punch to the midsection move" in Karate Champ and time it just right and you hit almost every-time no matter how fast the other guy was moving. I could play that game for hours. It was fun but in the end easy. Defender was a bitch which is what made it great. I still think I've whittled it down to perhaps the ten best. How would you choose between Defender and its Sequel Stargate? 1941 was fun but to place it in the same category as Robotron would be a mistake.
