I'm a fan. Didn't It Rain really tickles my poor-appalachian-factory-town roots. I saw them live and it was damn good. Jason even spent some time growing up in West Virginia. Mountaineers have an affinity for ex-mountaineers.

Absolute Oldham rip off. For those who like Palace, but have issues for Will disdain for his fans.

I'm surprised we haven't got a bigger poll for Jason Molina.

Jason Molina is a lo-fi troubadour, sort of country, sort of Appalachian, sort of everything. He used to record 'solo' records under the name Songs:Ohia and eventually with a rock band called Electric Magnolia Co. He recorded a few really great records with Steve over the years.
Axxes and Ace might be the most approachable record. Very spontaneous, he taught the backing musicians the songs about an hour before hitting record. Ghost Tropic is one of the bleakest records you will ever here and not such a good place to start. Didn't it Rain is an often-cited creative high-water mark and Molina's 'Chicago' album. The following album Magnolia Electric Co is a superb hybrid of Crazy Horse and traditional country.
Highly recommended!
