I'd never given them much thought before (although the "hit" off _Summer Teeth_ was nice), but Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is a great great album. I know why everybody hates them, but I really like good pop songs with a healthy dose of what-the-fuck. So, I will be in the minority with a vote of NOT CRAP.

Inherited the following that the Replacements built up, but(like most alcoholics) never could take advantage. They've always been very tame. YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT might have been weird for someone who only has heard post GOO Sonic Youth. I saw them play at the Illinois State9in the heart if the Midwest) auditorium bout '97 and barely filled the first 5 rows.

Not being too familiar with pre-"Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" Wilco and not being that impressed by what I heard, I thought that album sounded mighty nifty, sort of like a midwestern analogue to Giant Sand. I think I should also state that I haven't lived in Chicago since 1997, so I don't have the local media-hype factor to take into consideration.

I think Wilco are a very good band that I don't need to listen to very often.

I will say that I like the progress of YHFT as a whole, not that the other records are bad at all. Perhaps due to Mr. O'Rourke, but to me it's just that their work as a whole doesn't engage me on a level where I want to listen over and over. But it's been that way since Uncle Tupelo was still making records. Kind of like the second (third? fourth?) life of the Byrds (post Clark, Crosby, Parsons and Hillman).

I did get to see them play with Sonic Youth this past summer in Central Park, NYC. It was actually very very good and suprisingly Steely Dan-like in excecution.

But I didn't run home and put on the record.

All respect, Not Crap but in a Waffle House
