AKG 414 problem

1
i've had an AKG 414 for 3 years now, and two years ago it developed a mysterious problem. the mic generates static-like pops and clicks (almost sounding like a fire in a fireplace), but ONLY during the summer when the air is hotter and more humid. last summer i sent it back to AKG twice to get the problem fixed and both times they said they found nothing wrong with it.
near the end of the summer the problem seemed to go away. now it has returned again for the 3rd consecutive summer. i've been running a dehumidifier in the live room for the last couple days, but the mic keeps making these sounds.

I'm thinking maybe this mic just doesn't work well in more humid conditions... anybody else had this problem before? none of my other mics exhibit this problem.

AKG 414 problem

You could try keeping the microphone inside a box or pouch with silica gel sachets in it. These are often supplied with microphones and keep moisture levels low. They need to be dried or replaced occasionally though.

There was an article written about this problem on the sound on sound website at one point.
