2Not crap...but I rarely, if ever, want to listen to him. Many props for the plastic horn. But really...do you enjoy Ornette Coleman regularly? If yes, tell me what it does to your noodle, where it takes you, etc.
Thx.

well, i'm enjoying Love Call at this moment...but it's hard to define regularly...as far as jazz goes i probably listen to Coltrane and Sun Ra more, but behind them it's Ornette i guess...i have so much music there's hardly anything i can say i truly listen to regularly...but i guess within that limitation i listen to Ornette as regularly as possible...what does it do to my noodle? uh, erectifies it? i don't know where it takes me, but it's a pretty swell place that has good music playing all the time...something like that...

4Not crap. i like my Ornette medium well, with a side of Charlie Haden.
'Virgin Beauty' was my first introduction to Mr. Coleman.
Is that good or bad? I have no idea.
I guess jerry Garcia on any record is a problem at some point.

It is bad.
"Virgin Beauty" and "Tone Dialing" are Ornette's worst.
If you like "Virgin Beauty" there is almost nowhere for you to go but up.
That is good news!

6I thought Tone Dialing was pretty good for it's era.
Then again, that era was a really bad time for anything jazz related.

7the only albums that i have of his are The Shape of Jazz to Come and Ornette!
i find them to be both phenomenal, though i do listen to the Shape of Jazz to Come more often than Ornette!.
if you haven't heard Lonely Woman, maybe it will change your mind? Peace is another fantastic song.
hell, if you never got to that album, i highly recommend it.

8I first heard Coleman from seeing Naked Lunch back in high school. That soundtrack is pretty killer.
Free Jazz was the first jazz record I ever bought. It was kind of like not learning how to walk, yet going straight into skydiving lessons.
I've got Live in Stockholm and Science Fiction. Science Fiction is fucking fantastic. Especially "What Reason Could I Give?"
An exhuberant Not Crap.

Single malt scotch, a decent corona or other medium-small cigar, and slippers.
