Songs with absolutely no " intro" ... help me think

(prompted by the "cool intro" threads...)

I was talking about this with my girlfriend and it became apparent that there are at least a few variations of "no-intro" songs:

1) no intro - starts immediately in the 1st verse (what I am mostly trying to list)

Here are the first few I could think of:

Big Star - Back Of A Car

Pixies - Alec Eiffel

Shellac - Canada (at least the Terraform version - the live versions ususally get a special intro) :D

Shellac - Canaveral

Shellac - This Is A Picture (?)

Beatles - I'm Only Sleeping

Beatles - We Can Work It Out

Residents - Lizard Lady

2) no intro - starts with a chorus - I am for some reason much less fascinated by these... most of the examples I though of were pretty bad

Beatles - Paperback Writer (one example that I like OK)

(Also - it becomes arguably vague what is or isn't an intro when it's an instrumental song maybe, or also when the vocalist speaks words over the music moreso than singing in melodies...)

DISCUSS.

Guided By Voices had a number of them. "Game of Pricks" is the first one that comes to mind.

I was just about to chime in with GBV as well. 'Official Ironmen Rally Song' and 'Teenage FBI' as well as the aforementioned '...Pricks' are intro-less.

Well - yeah I guess I missed that thread... but maybe this one is a little more focused...? like I can think of songs where vocals start right away, but I would still characterize it as an "intro"...

(searches memory banks for example, but at the moment can only come up with "Here, There & Everywhere" by the Beatles)

Also, I don't think I would count "La Grange" - that has a bit of guitar riff and clicky drumsticks intro... but that's my opinion...

And yeah, I can't believe I didn't think of GBV "Game Of Pricks"... good one

Sorry if this is flogging the proverbial dead horse, but I (unlike a lot of my pals) think it's fun sometimes (but not all the time) to analyze the structure of some of my fave songs - see what it is that makes them memorable to me... I like this forum, because I know I can probably get a few like-minded souls to reply and discuss... unlike real life at the moment where the question would be simply met by blank stares and "Idunno"s... nothing against current real-life friends and acquaintances, they just ain't music-freaks.

Don't worry - for now I'll spare the discussion of funny time signatures and/or skipped beats (although my favorites of which lately have been "Knives Out" - Radiohead and "Heart Of Glass" - Blondie)
